Carlos Silva e Sousa negotiated the purchase of the land of a former brick factory in the rural parish, which was in the process of insolvency, and managed to reduce 1.5 million euros in cost.
The municipal chamber of Albufeira will buy the plot of 22 hectares in the parish of Paderne to install a training space for the nautical sector. Only the deed is still missing, which is dependent on a approval by the Court of Auditors, according to Carlos Silva e Sousa, president of the municipality.
The land belonged to the Factory of Ceramics of the Algarve - Faceal; the company went into insolvency.
Carlos Silva and Sousa explained to Barlavento that "several hypotheses are considered, but among them, there is a school dedicated to the technical teaching of activities related to the sea. "It's a technical education that offers one hundred percent employability," he said, although he did not go ahead with more information, because the negotiations have not yet been closed. This is just the basic idea for the property, but there are other ideas. "We will predict everything" that could be created in that space, and an eventual partnership with the University of Algarve, "a technology area or a business park", he said.
The space belonged to the insolvent estate of Faceal. They were asking for the 22-hectare property, a price exceeding 3 million euros. "I was able to knock it down with 1.5 million euros, compared to the agreed value at the beginning, at a meeting of the Creditors' Assembly that took place at the Court of Olhão", assured the mayor.
