According to a report by Correio da Manhã, the man was thought to be in his 60’s and fishing from a 10 metre rock known locally as Pias on Sunday.
Witnesses describe the fisherman as being swallowed up by a massive wave while he was out for the day fishing with a friend.
Although the friend alerted the authorities immediately the authorities were unable to save him and his body was brought back to land at 11.30am.
