The works will involve the recovery of the mechanisms for the operation of the mill and will include the placement of support structures, lighting and walkways that will allow access to mill for those with educe mobility.
"It's not a heavy work or a large investment, but we want to dignify this site which is one of the most important tourist symbols of the village," José Gonçalves from Aljezur council told Lusa.
The Odeceixe windmill was recovered about 15 years to make it work, "not only with the task of grinding grain, but also as cultural tourism," said the mayor.
"In addition to its natural beauty, the mill is situated in a strategic point that allows you to enjoy a magnificent view over the village which makes it a very significant tourist spot," he said.
The "monument" receives between four to five thousand people during the summer, "making it one of the most visited sites in the Aljezur municipality," said José Gonçalves, anticipating that improved access "can contribute to a substantial increase" of visitors.
