On the day he celebrates his 90th birthday, actor Ruy de Carvalho received from Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in the Room of the Ambassadors, in the Palace of Belém, the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit.
The President of the Republic praised the actor's kindness and his ability to make Portugal better.
Ruy de Carvalho is a Portuguese actor. He appeared in more than ninety films since 1952. He is one of the most renowned portuguese actors of all time, and is still active as an artist.
For being a role model to both young artists and older people, he was awarded with the 2013 Active Aging Award in the "Arts" category.
The President said: "90 years is 90 years. And 75 years of stage is 75 years. But these years , those of our dear friend Ruy de Carvalho, are special because they were lived to give happiness to all of us.
As an actor he is known for Todo o Tempo do Mundo (1999), Saber Amar (2002) and Bem-Vindos a Beirais (2013).
Ruy de Carvalho was born on March 1, 1927 in Lisboa, as Ruy Alberto Rebelo Pires de Carvalho.
