Only 49 were elected in seven different categories: «Authentic Villages», «Villages-Monument», «Riverzone Villages », «Villages in Protected Areas», 'Remote Villages', 'Villages on the Sea' and 'Rural Villages'. In the municipality of Lagoa the village Ferragudo is the pre-finalist in the category of «Aldeias de Mar», village on the sea.
Located on the River Arade, in the municipality of Lagoa, Ferragudo was elevated to the category of village on June 30, 1999.
With an area of approximately 5.74 square kilometers, it has about three thousand inhabitants.
