The Portuguese economy is expected to have accelerated in the first quarter of this year.
A growth by 0.7% over the last three months of 2016, leveraged by more investment, according to most of the estimates collected by Lusa.
The National Statistical Institute (INE) on Tuesday released their estimate of the quarterly national accounts for the first quarter of this year. Most analysts contacted by Lusa predicted that the economy has grown above 0.7% in the chain and between 2.4% and 2.7% year on year.
If the analysts' forecasts are confirmed, this means that the Portuguese economy accelerated in the first three months of this year compared to the last quarter of 2016, when Gross Domestic Product (GDP) registered growth of 0.6% in the chain and 2 % in year-on-year terms.
The Center for the Economy of Portugal (NECEP), of the Catholic University, is the most optimistic: in its April balance sheet, it estimates GDP growth of 0.9% over the previous quarter and a Year-on-year change of 2.7%.
