The Municipal Pavilion of Penha, in Faro, will work as a point of refuge for homeless or disabled due to the cold wave that has now reached the Algarve, informed the local authority.
According to Lusa agency, in order to mitigate the effects of the cold wave, the Faro Council triggered a contingency plan that gathers on the ground teams from Faro Fire Department and the Municipal Civil Protection device in collaboration with the services Social Action of the agency, Red Cross, Support Center of Homeless (CASA) and "Refood".
"With the goal of signaling any homeless person or with special needs, these teams will go through various parts of the county with warm clothes and hot food, signaling and directing people in need of support and assistance to the Municipal Pavilion of Penha", reads in a statement, quoted by Lusa. The authority added that in the pavilion will be available an overnight stay, warm clothing, food and also "kits" of personal care to people in need of assistance.
The Faro Council took the opportunity to call upon the collaboration of the population in the identification of situations that fit the available support, asking that they contact the center of the Civil Protection Service and the Faro Fire Department by calling .
