The first stone of the hotel complex Ombria Resort will take place on Friday, August 25, at 11:00 a.m., which will be part of the first unit of the Viceroy Hotels & Resorts brand, an American chain of luxury hotels in Portugal and Europe.

The Ombria Resort, a 5-star tourist complex with hotel, residences, an 18-hole golf course at Estrada do Olival, between Tôr and Querença to the north of Loulé. This is a first in Europe for the American Viceroy Hotels & Resorts group which will be managing the development, owned by the Finnish, Pontos Group. The project first was proposed 20 years ago but was given a major boost in 2012 with a 'Project of National Importance' status handed out by the former Foreign Minister, Paulo Portas.

The opening of Viceroy at Ombria Resort with 76 rooms and Viceroy Residences at Ombria Resort, which includes 65 tourist residences, is planned for the end of 2019. The hotel complex also includes a clubhouse, a conference center, 5 restaurants, a spa , Kids club, an astronomical observatory, heated swimming pools and various other leisure and fitness facilities.

The first phase of the project represents an investment of more than 100 million euros. The total investment in the three phases will exceed 260 million euros. The investor, Grupo Pontos, a Finnish private equity fund, will make this investment with about 60% equity, which represents a relatively unique scenario for this type of project.
